IPS offers complete in-shop service, repair, rewinds, and remanufacturing for industrial AC & DC electric motors and generators. We handle assets weighing up to 145 tons and rated to 15 kV, including AC induction and synchronous motors, AC generators (hydro, wind, steam), DC motors, and specialty motors like vertical, hermetic, nuclear, explosion-proof, and servo, with HP ratings from fractional to over 80,000.
Large & extra-large AC & DC motor service and repair
The IPS North American network has multiple high-voltage service centers specializing in large and extra-large industrial AC & DC motors. We have over 1.6 million square feet of repair space, with 145-ton lift capacity, and VPI tanks coast to coast. We also have the industry’s largest VPI tanks, measuring 14 feet.
We test, repair, rewind, remanufacture, and reverse engineer large and extra-large electric motors and generators. Our comprehensive testing includes non-destructive testing, such as infrared thermography, and comprehensive electrical testing. These include:
- No-load testing up to 37,500 HP
- Load testing up to 4,500 HP
- Run testing to 15,000 VAC & 1,000 VDC
- Core loss testing — 500 kVA up to 30,000 HP
- Insulation resistance
- Partial discharge
Mechanical testing for electric motors & generators
IPS tests in-shop for modal analysis, concentricity, hardness, vibration analysis, and balancing. We also provide dynamic balancing up to 80,000 lbs.
Premium VPI and B-stage hard coil rewinds
IPS offers proven solutions to mitigate electrical, thermal, mechanical, and environmental stress on stator windings. Our global VPI and B-stage hard coil rewinds come with industry-leading warranties.
Custom motors and uprating
We engineer for the application. IPS manufactures custom motors and can uprate legacy motors for more power or efficiency.

Large power generator service and repair
We specialize in large power generators for wind, hydro, steam, diesel, natural gas, and biogas turbines. IPS technicians know high-speed two-pole generators and multi-pole slow-speed generators.
